Kendol Payne, a 31-year-old Black man, was shot to death in his Opelousas, Louisiana apartment in the early morning hours of May 30, 2022. Officers responded shortly before 1:00 AM to a report of a shooting on Ina Clare Drive and found Payne inside with multiple gunshot wounds; medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators say the attack appeared to be deliberate: someone or multiple people fired numerous rounds through a rear bedroom window from outside, then fled on foot into the early morning darkness. The Opelousas Police Department opened a homicide investigation and interviewed people who might have information. St. Landry Crime Stoppers and the department issued a public plea and offered a cash reward for tips.

No arrests, identified suspects, or persons of interest have been publicly announced and the case remains unsolved. If anyone knew Kendol, was in the Ina Clare Drive area that night, or has information that could help, please come forward.
