Diondre Williams, 21, a Black man from Broussard, Louisiana, was shot and killed the night of December 8, 2021, near the intersection of Gustave Street and Leon Street. Police responded to reports of shots fired shortly after 9 p.m. and located Williams at a nearby residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; officers and emergency medical personnel attempted aid but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting left a stunned neighborhood and a grieving family confronting the sudden loss.
The case moved quickly into a homicide investigation led by the Broussard Police with assistance from outside partners. Investigators say the trail led to an 18-year-old suspect, Jamiah Xavier Celestine, who turned himself in to the U.S. Marshals Task Force and was arrested on December 30, 2021, on a charge of second-degree murder. A Lafayette Parish grand jury later indicted Celestine for second-degree murder in connection with the December slaying. If anyone knew Diondre or has information about the events of December 8, please come forward.
