In the early morning hours of July 8, 2021, 25-year-old Qwonkeious Williams, known as Gummie, was found in a hallway of the OYO Town House along LA 70 in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound. The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded around 2 a.m. and began an investigation.

Investigators determined the shooting followed an altercation at the motel the previous day. Surveillance footage showed 33-year-old Marty Leonard of Pierre Part at the motel, reportedly saying he intended to shoot someone, then pacing before Williams entered and headed toward his room. The footage captured Leonard confronting Williams and shooting him multiple times in the corridor. Leonard was located and arrested later that day and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on charges including second-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal use of a weapon, and possession of marijuana.
