Garrison Cole Gautreaux, 17, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the chest in his vehicle in a parking lot on East Louisiana Avenue in Rayne, Louisiana, in the early morning hours of May 16, 2021. A junior at Notre Dame High School, he was active in the school’s football and baseball teams and the 4-H Club and is remembered by the community for enjoying hunting, fishing and time with family and friends.

The death was investigated as a homicide. Rayne police, with assistance from other agencies, identified and arrested two men in connection with the case: Scott Allen Cooper, 41, of Church Point, and Robert Allen Moreno, 41, of Houston. An Acadia Parish grand jury indicted both men on second-degree murder charges; each was held at the Acadia Parish Jail on bond set at $5 million. Cooper has a prior murder conviction that was later overturned, and his jury trial in the Gautreaux case has been scheduled for October 2025.
