On the evening of October 24, 2020, officers responded to a shots-fired call on the 400 block of Northwest Second Street in Reserve, Louisiana. They found a vehicle running with no one inside and, after searching the area that night, located no immediate clues to the driver’s whereabouts.

The next morning, 21-year-old Nicholas Paylor of Hester was found in a ditch about six feet deep, roughly 40 to 50 yards from where his vehicle had been left. He had been shot and killed, and investigators opened a homicide probe.

Detectives later identified 21-year-old Kejuan Brown of LaPlace as the alleged shooter and obtained a judicial arrest warrant. With assistance from the Orange, Texas, Police Department, Brown was arrested in Texas on November 29, 2020, and was booked on second-degree murder at Sherman Walker Correctional Facility on December 3, 2020. At the time of arrest, a motive had not been identified.

If anyone was in the Reserve area that night or knows why Paylor was targeted, please share what you know.
