Eric Demetric Walker Jr. was 21 when he was fatally shot in New Iberia, Louisiana, during the late summer of 2020. Born January 7, 1999, in Houston, Texas, he grew up in Harris County and was remembered by family as a happy-go-lucky young man who enjoyed rapping, photography, basketball and following the Los Angeles Lakers.

The shooting occurred on South Hopkins Street on the evening of Friday, September 4, or in the early hours of Saturday, September 5, 2020. Two other people were wounded in the same incident. Authorities arrested Denzel Scott and charged him with one count of first-degree murder in connection with Walker’s death and two counts of attempted second-degree murder for the people who were injured. The motive has not been disclosed.

A celebration of Eric’s life was held September 19, 2020, at Faith Hope Baptist Church, and he was buried at Greater Pleasant Green Baptist Church Cemetery. If anyone knew Eric or has information about the shooting, please share what you know.
