Ronnika Monique Richburg was 32 when she was shot and killed in her Avondale, Louisiana, home on August 25, 2020. She was working as a hairstylist and was described as CEO of Nola Braid Head. The attack occurred while she was attending to a client and took place in front of family members, a client, and her young children; witnesses included her mother and her mother’s boyfriend. Her former boyfriend, 42-year-old Lloyd Jones, forced entry into the residence after a reported period of escalating harassment that prompted Richburg to obtain a protective order. Jones allegedly cornered Richburg in a bathroom and shot her; her mother’s boyfriend was also wounded. Richburg was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving a four-year-old son and a thirteen-year-old daughter.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office identified Lloyd Jones as the suspect and obtained a warrant charging him with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, home invasion, obstruction of justice, and violation of a protective order with a firearm. Authorities said Jones remained at large and investigators were working with federal partners; possible sightings in Mexico or Central America were reported and a reward has been offered for information leading to his arrest and conviction.
If anyone knew Ronnika, her movements that day, or has information about Lloyd Jones’s whereabouts, please come forward.
