On Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020, 24-year-old Brett Wayne Ritchie of Bogalusa, Louisiana, was found dead on the edge of a gravel driveway in a rural part of southeast Washington Parish. Investigators described multiple gunshot wounds to Ritchie’s body. Witnesses reported a vehicle with Texas plates leaving the scene shortly after shots were heard.
Deputies located that vehicle in the Enon area and detained the driver, identified as 24-year-old Trevion R. Mark of Fort Worth, Texas. A search turned up illegal drugs and led to a drug possession arrest; detectives later connected Mark to the homicide and to Ritchie. Ritchie’s mother says her son was riding his bike home from a store when he witnessed a car being shot at, was taken to the remote location, and was shot eleven times; she says an autopsy indicated two different bullet types.
In August 2023 a Washington Parish grand jury indicted Trevion R. Mark, then 27, on second-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping, with additional counts of obstruction by tampering with evidence and possession of fentanyl; bond was set at $805,000. What can anyone who knew Brett or witnessed activity in southeast Washington Parish on April 12, 2020 add to this investigation?
