Kendall Thompson Jr was 17 when he was fatally shot in Jeanerette, Louisiana, on January 17, 2020. The shooting occurred near the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Guiberteau Street in the late afternoon; Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was initially reported as a possible drive-by shooting but was later thought to have followed an earlier altercation among those involved.
Jeanerette police identified four suspects and made arrests within hours and days of the shooting. Officers arrested 21-year-old Rondrick Grant and 20-year-old Travlon Dauphine the same day; the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force later apprehended 19-year-old George Bobb IV and 19-year-old McClellan Molo in Rapides Parish. All four were initially charged with second-degree murder. Local officials said an ongoing dispute among the individuals was the likely motive.
In July 2020 an Iberia Parish grand jury returned indictments: George Bobb IV was indicted for second-degree murder; Travlon Dauphine was indicted for accessory after the fact to second-degree murder and obstruction of justice by tampering with evidence; McClellan Molo was indicted for attempted second-degree murder. The grand jury action involving Rondrick Grant was not publicly detailed. A vigil was held at the shooting site; further public updates on trials, pleas, or outcomes have not been widely reported.
