Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, deputies in Reserve, Louisiana, found a vehicle crashed in a ditch at West Airline Highway and East 22nd Street. Inside were two local teens, 18-year-old Kerell Tyrez Sanders and his 20-year-old cousin Kyron Perrilloux. Both had been shot before the crash; the sheriff called it a double homicide and said the victims had been stalked and hunted down rather than being the victims of a random act.
Kerell Sanders had just graduated from East St. John High School in May 2019, played on the football team and planned to study engineering as a freshman at Southeastern Louisiana University. Family remembered him as bright, positive and a supportive older brother who could explain complex ideas to classmates.
Within days investigators arrested 25-year-old Theron Williams of New Orleans and later charged him with two counts of second-degree murder; a second suspect, Kelvin Taylor, was also arrested in connection with the killings. The community held vigils and a balloon release to honor Kerell and Kyron while the family urged peace and asked that the judicial process be allowed to proceed.
If anyone knew Kerell, his routines, friends or movements in late July 2019, please share information with investigators.
