Waneshia Bush, a 20-year-old Black woman from Winnsboro, Louisiana, was killed by gunfire on July 21, 2019, when shots broke out during what had been a celebratory gathering at Blanson and Smith Street. The shooting occurred in the early hours of that Sunday and left a college student admired on campus and in the community.
Bush was a student at Grambling State University, where she had been active in campus life and was recently named Miss Black and Gold. The Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office later announced arrests connected to the July 21 incident, identifying George Edward Bell, Jarrell M. Gundy, Devon Maurice Hill, and Calvin Ray Hollis among those taken into custody. Authorities described the case as an active investigation and asked anyone with information to come forward.
Anyone who knew Waneshia, attended Grambling State with her, or has information about the events at Blanson and Smith Street is asked to share what they know with investigators.
