Sir James Davis was 18 when he was shot and killed after a fight in the parking lot of a food mart on Highway 10 in New Roads, Louisiana, on July 8, 2019. He was taken to a local hospital but died of his injuries. Surveillance footage from the scene was used to identify and charge a suspect.
Investigators say the video led them to 20-year-old Jaquan Battley, who was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, illegal carrying of a weapon, and illegal use of a weapon. Authorities stated Battley was a member of a gang called Young and Reckless and that another member, Cameron Webb, had ordered Davis killed. Prosecutors presented the surveillance video and witness testimony at trial; the jury convicted Battley of second-degree murder.
Battley received a life sentence at hard labor without the possibility of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. Did anyone who knew Sir James see or hear anything that night in the Highway 10 area?
