Jabril Mitchell-Long was 20 when he was shot dead on a Detroit street on the evening of Saturday, November 11, 2017. He was sitting in his girlfriend’s car on Mansfield Street around 10:45 p.m. when an unknown person approached and opened fire, striking him multiple times. Witnesses said the shooter emerged from the passenger side of a truck, then got back into that vehicle, which fled eastbound on Verne Avenue toward Greenfield; the truck’s driver was not identified as the shooter.

Family and friends described Mitchell-Long as having a beautiful spirit and a love for making people laugh. Crime Stoppers of Michigan offered up to a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest, and his family held a press conference asking the public for help.
