On Father’s Day, June 16, 2019, 49-year-old Joseph Stanley Boxie Jr. of Opelousas, Louisiana, was ambushed at his home on Martin Luther King Drive and shot ten times with a modified AK-47 assault rifle, dying at the scene. Authorities described the killing as execution-style; it happened in the early hours after Boxie had returned home.
Investigators identified Kendall D. Singleton of La Place after an eyewitness placed him near the scene in a white car. Singleton was arrested on July 5, 2019, at the residence he shared with his wife. A search of that home recovered a modified AK-47 in a master bedroom dresser drawer that was consistent with the weapon used in the shooting. Four months after the murder, Singleton was charged with second-degree murder; a later indictment added a domestic abuse aggravated battery count.
Boxie was remembered as a loving father, a truck driver, and a well-respected member of his community. If anyone has information about his killing or the events leading up to June 16, 2019, please come forward.
