On the evening of May 4, 2019, 56-year-old Larry Hill was shot and killed inside his home on Shangri-La Drive in Chalmette, Louisiana. Deputies from the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots fired at about 8:30 p.m. and found bullet holes in a window. Inside the residence they discovered Hill lying on the ground with fatal gunshot wounds.
Hill was a native of New Jersey who had lived in Louisiana for many years and worked at the Tropical Isle bar on Bourbon Street for 30 years; employers and friends described him as jovial and helpful. Investigators say the shooting was not random. Matthew Squyres, 35, of New Orleans, was arrested and booked on a count of second-degree murder after detectives determined the two were acquaintances and the encounter stemmed from a prior dispute.
If anyone knew Hill or has information about his killing, please share tips or memories that might help the investigation.
