Edwina Campbell was 51 when she was killed in her Lake Charles, Louisiana home on May 1, 2019, following a domestic argument. The dispute escalated after her husband, Harold Campbell, returned home heavily intoxicated. Edwina had been considering divorce, and their daughter described the marriage as toxic. Two daughters were at home and later testified about the events.
Harold Campbell said he mistook his wife for an intruder and fired his handgun multiple times. Investigators and prosecutors presented evidence that contradicted that account: the location of gunshot wounds and projectiles in the mattress did not match an intruder scenario, and police body camera audio recorded him saying he couldn’t take it no more after his arrest. A jury convicted Harold Campbell of second-degree murder after only a couple of hours of deliberation and sentenced him to life without parole; an appeal was later denied.
