Devon Sutton, a 16-year-old African American male, was shot in the early morning hours of January 4, 2019, in a home on St. Jude Avenue in New Iberia, Louisiana. A bullet entered through a window and struck Devon; he was taken to Iberia Medical Center where he died from his injuries shortly after his birthday.
Investigators linked the killing to a shooting a week earlier on Walton Street involving a 15-year-old. Authorities identified two suspects: Jeyohn Augustine, 19 at the time, who was charged with first-degree murder, and Joshua Markell James, who faced charges of conspiracy to commit murder and attempted second-degree murder. Arrests were made; James later pleaded guilty and has been sentenced.
If anyone knew Devon, witnessed activity around St. Jude Avenue or Walton Street that week, or has information that could still be relevant, please share what is known.
