On December 15, 2018, 23-year-old Jeremiah Ballard was killed in a shooting during an armed intrusion at a garage on Market Street in Raceland, Louisiana. Two masked men in black clothing forced their way in and demanded money; gunfire followed. Ballard and 26-year-old Marcel Turner were struck. Turner was found dead at the scene shortly before 3 p.m.; Ballard was taken to Ochsner St. Anne Hospital in Raceland and died of his wounds.

Investigators quickly identified brothers Kerry and Jerrell Alexander as suspects and located them later that day at a restaurant in Boutte. A bag found outside the restaurant contained two handguns and camouflage masks; witnesses reported seeing the brothers with the bag before they entered. Both were arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.

In December 2019 a Lafourche Parish jury convicted Jerrell Alexander, then 29, of two counts of second-degree murder; he received a mandatory life sentence without parole. Kerry Alexander was scheduled for trial at a later date. Did anyone in the area know Jeremiah or have information about the events that afternoon?
