Alex Morena was 20 when he was killed after being lured to Dove Lane in Thibodaux, near Galliano, Louisiana. On October 15, 2018, Morena was shot multiple times during what investigators say was a robbery set up by Tyrick Hills; he died at the scene.

The Thibodaux Police Department’s investigation led to Hills’ arrest. At trial, Hills testified that he had recanted an earlier confession because he was afraid, but the prosecution presented evidence supporting the initial statement to law enforcement. A Lafourche Parish jury convicted Tyrick Hills of 2nd Degree Murder in connection with Morena’s death.
