In the early morning hours of August 27, 2018, gunfire shattered the Twin Lakes subdivision in DeRidder, Louisiana. Marquita Wright, 24, was found dead on the front porch of her home. A dispatcher for the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office, she had been returning from a night shift; her three young children were inside the house asleep at the time. The community reacted with shock and grief, and neighbors organized fundraisers and support for her family.
Investigators from the DeRidder Police Department, the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police opened a joint investigation. About a week after the shooting, police arrested a 35-year-old ex-boyfriend, Phil Oliver of Marrero, in Jefferson Parish; he was initially charged with second-degree murder. If anyone knew Marquita or has information about what happened that night, please share what you know with investigators.
