Stephain Puk Sterling Brailey was 24 when he was found dead along the shoulder of Lormand Road just south of Maurice, Louisiana, in the early morning hours of June 22, 2018. Deputies were called about 6:38 a.m.; they discovered him lying near the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators treated the death as a homicide and said detectives were actively working to determine a motive and reconstruct what led to him being on that shoulder of road.

The sheriff’s office asked anyone with information to contact the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office criminal investigations division. No arrests or charges were documented in those news reports, and coverage left many questions about what happened before the discovery.

Known to family as Puk, he was born March 19, 1994, in Greensboro, North Carolina, and was living in Abbeville, Louisiana. A funeral service was scheduled for June 30, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church Cemetery.
