On March 12, 2018, 7-year-old Marquez Truitt died at his home in Lake Providence, Louisiana, after a firearm accident. Marquez was in the house with his 12-year-old brother while their mother was at work. The older brother found a gun in a bedroom; when he handled the firearm it discharged and fatally wounded Marquez.

Family members spoke about the difficult circumstances that left the mother working without childcare, and the death is described as an accidental shooting rather than a criminal act. No arrests or suspects are mentioned in connection with the incident.

If anyone knew Marquez or has information about the household circumstances that day, please share what you know.
