Tyris Dontrell James was 17 when he was fatally shot and found on January 30, 2018, on North Arnoult Street in Metairie, Louisiana. He was pulled from a vehicle and left on the pavement after having been shot in the head; investigators determined the shooting occurred at a different location before his body was abandoned.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office identified and arrested three suspects: 17-year-olds Valentin Martinez and Chicobi Smith, and 21-year-old Angelo Holmes. All three were charged with second-degree murder. Authorities said James was acquainted with the suspects, but the motive remained unclear as the investigation continued. James was a student at Net Charter of New Orleans School.
