Christopher Saunders, 46, was shot and killed on December 5, 2017, in Chackbay, near Thibodaux, Louisiana, after a long‑running dispute with a neighbor over a property line. Saunders, originally from South Florida, lived in Chackbay with his wife and was described as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a crew boat captain who enjoyed hunting and fishing and cared for three dogs.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 11:54 a.m. Deputies found Saunders on the ground and his neighbor, 60‑year‑old Keith Trosclair, kneeling nearby with his hands raised. A rifle lay between the two men and Saunders had a pistol in a holster on his belt. Detectives say witness interviews and the investigation produced probable cause to arrest Trosclair; he was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center and later charged with one count of second‑degree murder.

A prayer service for Saunders was held the following week at The House of Prayer. If anyone knew Saunders or has information about the property dispute or the incident, please come forward.
