David Reed III was 24 when he was shot and killed on November 18, 2017, in the 1300 block of South Post Oak Road in Sulphur, Louisiana. First responders found him with gunshot wounds and he was transported to West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses at the scene identified a 17-year-old, Blake Poullard of Lake Charles, as the shooter. Sulphur police located and arrested Poullard the same afternoon at an apartment complex in Sulphur; he was initially charged with second-degree murder. Two juveniles were later charged with accessory after the fact to second-degree murder for allegedly assisting Poullard after the shooting.

When the case went to a Calcasieu Parish grand jury, the panel returned a no bill and declined to indict Blake Poullard on the second-degree murder charge. Information on the final disposition of the charges against the two juveniles is not available.
