An 18-year-old, Jontrell Wells, was fatally shot outside a Sweet 16 celebration at the corner of 6th and Compromise streets in Kenner, Louisiana, shortly before 11 p.m. on November 4, 2017. An off-duty officer working at the party was alerted to a disturbance; as that officer moved to investigate, gunfire erupted and Wells was found at the corner. He received CPR at the scene and was transported to University Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
Investigators reported shell casings of multiple calibers at the scene and said the violence began in an argument between two groups over a neighborhood rivalry, suggesting more than one shooter. Within a day police arrested 17-year-old Renee Holloway of Kenner and booked him with second-degree murder. A 14-year-old was later also arrested and booked with second-degree murder and held at Rivarde Juvenile Detention Center.
Holloway’s mother, 41-year-old Phaedra Robinson, was arrested after officers say she tried to help hide the gun used in the shooting. Detectives found magazines and bullets in Robinson’s room that matched ammunition from the scene, though the firearm itself was not recovered.
Did anyone at the party or in the neighborhood see what sparked the argument that night?
