Charles Thomas, a 39-year-old African American man, was found dead in Westwego, Louisiana, on September 5, 2017. Authorities determined he died from a fatal shooting and treated the case as a homicide. Reports say investigators uncovered a series of disputes involving Thomas in the weeks before his death, and police pursued multiple leads and interviews while piecing together what happened.
Investigators identified a 37-year-old man as a primary suspect, alleging the man had a contentious relationship with Thomas and was present at the scene. A 59-year-old man was also implicated and accused of assisting in disposing of the murder weapon. The case went to trial and a jury convicted the 37-year-old of second-degree murder; the court gave him a life term without parole. The 59-year-old received three years of probation for being an accessory after the fact.
If anyone knew Charles, his movements in late summer 2017, or has information about the shooting, please come forward.
