Shakena N. Hampton, 35, was shot and killed in her Ruston, Louisiana home in the early hours of August 22, 2017. The shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on Cotton Avenue while Shakena was in her living room holding her one-year-old son, Isaiah. Her ex-husband, Frank Jauron Stringfellow, reportedly began shooting; Shakena was struck six times and managed to run to a bedroom where her mother, Doris Hampton, had been sleeping before collapsing.

Doris Hampton was shot three times in the arm; one bullet that hit Shakena passed through her and lodged in the infant’s back. The attacker also reportedly tried to shoot Shakena’s 13-year-old daughter but the gun failed to fire. Witnesses saw Stringfellow leave the scene and police used the car’s OnStar to deactivate the vehicle, later arresting him as he walked along Highway 80 in Grambling. The case included a history of domestic abuse and reports that Shakena had changed the locks to keep Stringfellow away.

A jury later convicted Frank Stringfellow of killing Shakena and of related charges; two other women, Vickie Stringfellow and April Lyons, were arrested and charged as accessories after the fact. Shakena’s infant son recovered from his injuries and went to live with his biological father. Does anyone have further information about Shakena’s life or the household in Ruston at that time?
