On the morning of August 19, 2017, 72-year-old Jerry Wayne Scott was shot through his storm door after answering a knock at his home on the 1300 block of Matthews Lodge Road in Many, Louisiana. The bullet struck his upper chest; he was found deceased, lying face up on his living room floor. Scott was born March 24, 1945, in DeQuincy, Louisiana.
The Sabine Parish Coroner’s Office at one point treated the incident as a potential hate crime, though motive details were not widely released. The investigation remained open with no immediate arrest announced. In March 2018 a Sabine Parish Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Blake Joseph Kendall, a 39-year-old Many resident, on two counts of first-degree murder, one count naming Scott’s killing.
Did anyone in the Many area see or hear anything unusual at Scott’s home on August 19, 2017?
