On December 28, 2016, Patrick Mitchell, 38, was found inside a residence at 808 Greenwood Drive in Ruston, Louisiana, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers responded around 3:45 AM; Mitchell was taken to a nearby hospital and later died of his injuries. He is described as an African American male.

Investigators identified 24-year-old Taylor Keyonta Burr as a suspect while Burr was in custody at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on an unrelated burglary arrest. Burr was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with Mitchell’s death and was held without bond. The motive and further circumstances leading to the shooting have not been released.
