Derice Bailey was 35 and a mother of two when she was shot dead at her Metairie, Louisiana, home on the evening of December 2, 2016. Jefferson Parish deputies went to her Aero Street residence after a report of a man with a gun; they heard gunfire from inside. Her 39-year-old ex-husband, Ronald Mitchell Sr., left the house and surrendered, handing over a .38-caliber pistol. Deputies found Bailey on the kitchen floor with gunshot wounds to the chest and head.
Reports say the shooting followed a pattern of domestic violence and Mitchell’s growing obsession with unfounded accusations that Bailey was unfaithful. Friends had gathered at the house that night trying to mediate. Witnesses described Mitchell retrieving a revolver from a vacant house and firing in front of the couple’s two children while Bailey tried to shield them.
If anyone knew Derice, the family, or saw activity on Aero Street that night, please share what might help the case.
