A verbal dispute in Cullen, Louisiana, on March 21, 2016, turned deadly when 27-year-old Londell Moore was shot in the back of the head. Witnesses said the argument, reportedly over a woman, escalated when Alan M. Lewis Jr. pulled a gun and fired twice; emergency responders found Moore already deceased at the scene.

Alan M. Lewis Jr. surrendered after a manhunt and was initially charged with second-degree murder in connection with Moore’s death. He later pleaded guilty to a reduced manslaughter charge with the victim’s family’s approval. In March 2017 a judge sentenced Lewis to 30 years, with all but 13 years suspended, plus five years of active supervised probation, $7,000 restitution for funeral expenses, and required substance abuse treatment while incarcerated. The defense described the shooting as a terrible mistake by a young, first-time felony offender.
