On February 13, 2015, 25-year-old Richard Erness Prenell of Alexandria, Louisiana, was shot and killed during a violent escalation in an apartment dispute that also left 18-year-old Kiasha Clovis dead. The clash began when Melissa Hayes was moving out and argued with Clovis; Prenell, who was Clovis’s boyfriend, intervened to try to calm the situation.

He then shot Clovis as well. Police found both victims deceased from gunshot wounds. Mark Will Hayes was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder. Melissa Hayes was implicated in Clovis’s death.

A jury later found Mark Will Hayes guilty as charged, and the court sentenced him to two concurrent life sentences for the murders of Richard Prenell and Kiasha Clovis.
