On Saturday, August 2, 2014, 23-year-old Kenneth Drake was fatally shot inside a residence in the 1000 block of West Seventh Street in Crowley, Louisiana. Investigators said the suspect forced his way into the home and specifically sought out Drake, indicating the attack was not random.

Within days the Crowley Police Department identified 21-year-old Damaris Harmon of Crowley as the suspect and issued a warrant for first-degree murder. Harmon was described as a Black male, 6 feet 3 inches tall and about 160 pounds, and authorities warned he should be considered armed and dangerous. He turned himself in on August 9, 2014.

By March 2020 Harmon was reported to be out on bond on the 2014 murder charge and his prosecution was ongoing; he had also been arrested on unrelated charges in a separate Rayne shooting.
