Calvin Edmond was 17 when he was shot on the evening of April 22, 2014, near Yorktowne Drive and Fairway Drive in LaPlace, Louisiana. He was with a group of friends when 16-year-old Isaiah London Jones opened fire; residents found Edmond lying unresponsive in a front yard with a bullet wound to the back of his head. Edmond was taken to a local hospital, then transferred to University Hospital in New Orleans, where he died on April 23, 2014.

Detectives identified Jones as a suspect after witness statements and, on April 24, 2014, arrested him at his home on Williamsburg Drive. Spent shell casings recovered there matched casings from the scene. Jones was charged as an adult with second-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, and aggravated criminal damage to property. In April 2017 Jones pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter and received a 30-year sentence; Edmond’s mother, Shazell Johnson, addressed the court and said she forgave him.
