On Monday, March 10, 2014, 24-year-old Uriah Joseph was fatally shot near the intersection of Sam and Ann Streets in New Iberia, Louisiana. He was taken to Iberia Medical Center after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds and died there. This was reported as the first homicide of the year in Iberia Parish.
Authorities identified 34-year-old Michael Augustine of New Iberia as a suspect and issued a warrant for second-degree murder. Augustine was located in Houston, Texas, and arrested on March 21, 2014, by the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force and the Houston Police Department; he was held in Harris County awaiting extradition with bond initially set at one million dollars. A grand jury later returned an indictment for manslaughter and his bond was listed at $200,000. The defense claimed Augustine shot in self-defense, invoking Louisiana’s stand your ground provisions. The manslaughter charge was eventually dismissed after a motion for speedy trial.
Does anyone have information about Uriah Joseph, his routine, or what happened near Sam and Ann Streets that morning?
