A December hunting trip near Port Sulphur ended with a fatal shooting. Eighteen-year-old Galen Scott was hog hunting with two friends in a remote area south of Port Sulphur when, at about 5:45 p.m. on a Thursday, one companion, 18-year-old Wyatt Evans, mistook the others for hogs and fired a shotgun. Deputies from the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office found Scott with wounds to his head and leg; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Seventeen-year-old Cody Jones was also shot in the legs and taken to a hospital for surgery; he was expected to recover. Evans was taken into custody and booked into the Belle Chasse jail on charges of negligent homicide for Scott’s death and negligent injuring for Jones’s wounds. If anyone was familiar with the location or the group that day, can you share information that might clarify what happened?
