On the night of November 17, 2013, 23-year-old Ramal Ellis was walking home in St. Rose, Louisiana, when multiple gunshots rang out a block from his residence. His parents heard the shots and discovered his body behind the Fifth African Baptist Church; he had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ellis was a Destrehan High School graduate, a student of psychology at Delgado Community College weeks from graduation, a Home Depot employee, and an active volunteer and leader at his church. Family and friends described him as respectful, goal-oriented, and not involved in criminal activity.

Investigators from the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office treated robbery as the likely motive after his wallet was found missing. Detectives followed leads, interviewed more than 100 people and questioned identified suspects, and recovered a partial DNA profile from a pocket; no arrest or charges were filed and the profile has not produced a match. The case remains unsolved.

Rose that night that could help bring new information to light?
