Charles Chuck Wilson was a 34-year-old detective with the Bastrop Police Department when he was killed on August 10, 2007, while following up on a hotel theft in Bastrop’s main square. He and his partner, Detective John Smith, encountered suspects who were wanted in connection with a murder in Texas; a violent shootout erupted inside the hotel and both detectives were fatally wounded. One of the murder suspects was killed in the exchange and a female suspect escaped the scene. Two paramedics who responded to aid the officers were also wounded.
A manhunt for the female suspect resulted in her capture two days later in Houston by the U.S. Marshal’s office, and investigators arrested three people accused of assisting her flight. Detective Wilson had served with the Bastrop department for 11 years and is survived by his wife, two daughters, parents, brother, and sister.
If anyone has information about the events at the hotel that day or knew Detective Wilson, please share what you know.
