Adrian Tolbert, 35, was shot and killed on the front porch of his Harding Street home on Detroit’s east side in the early morning hours of August 8, 2016. An African-American father of three, Tolbert had been next door at his mother’s house just before the shooting; his mother, Betty Tolbert-Carey, says his last words to her were I love you. Neighbors reported hearing gunfire that brought police to the scene.
Investigators have treated the killing as a deliberate act of violence. Police released surveillance video showing a man seen sneaking up on the property who was described as a potential person of interest, but no arrests have been announced and the case remains open. Crime Stoppers has offered a cash reward and the family continues to hold gatherings and ask the community for help.
If anyone knew Adrian, saw activity near Harding Street on August 8, 2016, or has information about the person in the surveillance video, please contact Detroit police or Crime Stoppers.
