On October 1, 1997, 32-year-old Calcasieu Parish deputy Billy Wayne McIntosh was killed while off duty after answering a call for help about a woman being assaulted by her former husband. McIntosh was shot in the face at point-blank range as he knocked on the door; the wound severed his brain stem and proved fatal. The shooter had already murdered his ex-wife, Rhonda Hamilton, inside the home, and another deputy was injured during the pursuit that followed.
The shooter, identified as Woody (Woodrow) Hamilton, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. He was later convicted on the murder counts and received two consecutive life sentences.
If anyone knew Deputy McIntosh, Rhonda Hamilton, or has information about that October night, please share what you know.
