Jayden Shamar Jones was 16 when he was shot dead on December 5, 2022, in the parking lot of the clubhouse at the Pines at Glen Laurel Apartment Complex on Pine Hall Drive, just off Highway 42 in Clayton, North Carolina. Officers responded to a shots-fired call just after 8:20 p.m.; Jayden was found with gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

Investigators say Jayden was involved in an altercation with two suspects before the shooting. Witnesses reported multiple gunshots, one estimating about 12, and saw the suspects flee in a white car, possibly a Mitsubishi Lancer. Police pursued that vehicle at speeds over 100 miles per hour but the suspects initially evaded capture.

On December 22, 2022, Clayton detectives, assisted by Raleigh police, arrested 18-year-old Roberto Munoz of Raleigh and charged him with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and felony fleeing to elude arrest. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests and charges are anticipated. Jayden was a 9th-grade student at Choice Plus Academy; grief support and extra counselors were provided to the school community.
