LaMichael Jammual Everette, a 29-year-old African American man, was found with a gunshot wound off Tolbert Place in Princeville (a residential area off U.S. 64) on October 23, 2022. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire around 1 a.m.; deputies arrived about 3 a.m. and Everette later died of his injuries. The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office treated the death as a homicide and opened an investigation.
Initially no suspects were announced, but investigators later charged two people in connection with the killing. Rameik Anderson was charged with first-degree murder and felony conspiracy; he was already in custody in Wilson County and was given no bond on the new charges pending first appearance. Jayla Quatia Hyman was charged with felony conspiracy and accessory before the fact to a felony and was arrested by the sheriff’s office, held in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 secured bond. Everette was remembered by the community as a loving father, son, and friend.
Does anyone who knew LaMichael or was in the Tolbert Place area that night have information to share with investigators?
