Tyree Jones, 29, was shot dead just before 11 p.m. on October 4, 2022, in the 1700 block of Wall Street in Roxboro, North Carolina. Officers who responded found Jones deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Police say the shooting did not appear random and that Jones was specifically targeted.

A murder arrest warrant was issued for 20-year-old Tycoy Dayshon Pettiford, who was already in custody in Craven County on parole violations; Pettiford is accused of shooting Jones that night. Authorities have not disclosed a motive and say the investigation is ongoing, with additional arrests possible. No other suspects have been publicly identified.

Jones is survived by his children, fiancée, parents, siblings and other relatives. A Memorial Celebration of Life was held on October 18, 2022. If anyone has information that could help the investigation, please come forward.
