Rakeem Demarko Holloway, 27, was fatally shot on September 8, 2022, in Goldsboro, North Carolina. He was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to Wayne UNC Health Care before being airlifted to ECU Medical Center, where he died later that evening. The shooting was reported at about 5:55 p.m. at 905 South Slocumb Street; the ShotSpotter system corroborated that time and location.

The Goldsboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division opened a homicide investigation. On September 12, 2022, a warrant for an open count of murder was obtained for 32-year-old Shadell Barksdale of Goldsboro. Barksdale was taken into custody on November 3, 2022, in the 600 block of South Claiborne Street and served with the murder warrant and a misdemeanor probation violation; no bond was set on the murder charge and a $5,000 secured bond was set for the probation violation. The investigation is ongoing.
