Erik Bailey, 34, of Winston-Salem was killed on August 2, 2022, during a late-night fight at Clarios Manufacturing on Powering Progress Drive in Kernersville. The altercation occurred about 11:15 PM and involved another employee, 29-year-old Diarus Mark Raynor of Winston-Salem. The two men knew each other and the shooting was not described as random.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Raynor shot Bailey, and Raynor was arrested on charges including felony voluntary manslaughter, discharging a firearm within an enclosure to incite fear, and misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon. Raynor was held on $500,000 bond at the Forsyth County Jail. Authorities described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there was no ongoing threat to the community or other employees.

Bailey was remembered as positive and outgoing and close to his family, especially his son. Clarios, which employs more than 500 workers, offered condolences and said it was cooperating with investigators and taking steps to ensure employee safety. What witnesses at the scene can add about how the altercation began and unfolded?
