Kwaze Walker, 21, of Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of July 31, 2022, on Night Harbor Drive in Leland. Officers arrived at 3:49 a.m. and found Walker inside a residence with a gunshot wound; lifesaving efforts by EMS and officers failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators report that Walker entered the home and engaged in a physical and verbal confrontation with 19-year-old Deandre Davis, who was a welcomed guest. During an assault lasting about 45 minutes, Walker held Davis at gunpoint and beat him severely. Davis, who sustained serious injuries, retrieved his own firearm and shot Walker in the torso. A second man, 19-year-old Devin Antone of Lake Waccamaw, was later charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury and first-degree kidnapping; Antone was not charged in Walker’s death.
The Brunswick County District Attorney’s Office concluded Davis acted in self-defense and did not file charges against him for Walker’s death. The investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to examine the circumstances. Did anyone witness activity on Night Harbor Drive that night or have information about Walker’s arrival at the residence?
