Tracy Dion Brown, a 54-year-old African American man from Burlington, North Carolina, was found shot to death in a yard on Foster Street on July 5, 2022. Burlington Police and EMS responded to a call about 11:38 a.m. and discovered Brown unconscious on the lawn; he had been fatally shot. He was remembered by neighbors as kind and willing to help others, and his death had a strong impact on the local community.

Following an investigation, two arrests were announced. J'Raad Amajh Malik Simpson, 40, of Caswell County, was arrested in August 2022 and charged with first-degree murder; he was being held without bond in the Clay County, Florida jail pending extradition. James Donavan Rowell, 46, was arrested January 11, 2023, charged with first-degree murder, and held without bond at the Alamance County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
