Brent Antwain McCollum Jr. was 30 when he was found dead from a gunshot wound inside a vehicle on Loop Road just outside Clinton, North Carolina, on May 29, 2022. The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office responded after a report of a shooting and discovered McCollum deceased at the scene.

A 24-year-old Clinton resident, Roman Dashon King, was also shot during the incident and suffered a superficial wound; he was taken to a regional hospital for treatment. As of the latest update, investigators have not publicly identified suspects or released a timeline of events leading to the shooting, and the investigation remains active.
