Tyrone Deshawn Armstead, 33, of Edenton, North Carolina, was found dead in the roadway in Elizabeth City on January 25, 2022. He had suffered gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene after police responded to reports of gunshots near Walker Avenue and Westway Drive around 8:46 p.m.

The next day Tyshaun Deanthony Thompson, 27, of Windsor, turned himself in and was charged with murder. Thompson was taken into custody by the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, held with no bond, and had his first court appearance scheduled for January 27, 2022. The Elizabeth City Police Department continued to investigate the shooting.
